DeepL Dialogues 2025 - Design do Evento

One event, three kinds of output

The headline piece was the opening hype video: a conceptual film built to tease DeepL's new technologies before they were announced on stage. Around it sat two supporting workstreams, the slide design for product and internal presentations, and a set of templates that let the team publish social and blog content in real time while the event was running.

A canvas that is not a canvas

The stage was the hardest constraint. Three separate screens, with physical gaps between them, that had to read as one composition rather than three synchronised videos. Framing, pacing, and the placement of every element had to account for where the eye would actually be across a 25-metre span, and for the fact that the lateral screens are square while the central screen is a wide strip.

The 2025 Berlin edition drew more than 300 attendees, followed by a second edition in Tokyo

Designed for the room, not the file

The hype video was storyboarded specifically for the three-screen format from the start, rather than being made as a standard widescreen film and then extended outward. That meant treating the central screen as the narrative anchor and the laterals as peripheral vision, so the composition holds together as one image while still giving each screen something to do.

I directed the piece through to delivery and coordinated the animation with the Fitzroy Hawk agency, which meant translating the storyboard into a brief precise enough for an external team to execute against without losing the intent.

Supporting the event, during and after

Alongside the film I designed the slides for product presentations and in-house announcements, keeping one visual language across both. I also built the social media and blog templates the team used to publish in real time during the event and in the coverage afterwards, so content could go out at the pace of the day without waiting on design.

Outcome and impact

The 2025 Berlin edition drew more than 300 attendees, followed by a second edition in Tokyo, generating new leads and new clients for DeepL. I shaped the opener videos for both the 2024 and 2025 events, directing external agency production end to end.
